Greetings from the President

Takao Kitahata, Chairman of the Board

At the beginning of the 21st century, when China joined the WTO, there was a bright expectation that free trade and investment under the common rules would make great strides to enhance peace and prosperity, transcending differences in political systems and stages of economic development. However, global circumstances have taken a completely different turn.

The U.S. and China are at odds with each other under the banner of Make America Great Again and the great restoration of the Chinese nation, and the situation in the Middle East over Ukraine and Iran is causing a crisis of democracy and respect for human rights. It must be said that we have entered an era of uncertainty and chaos.

Center for International Economic Collaboration (CFIEC) conducts research, provides information, and carries out other activities with the aim of addressing issues facing the Japanese economy and promoting economic cooperation with other countries and regions around the world.

Specifically, with the cooperation of experts and policy makers from various fields, we are conducting research on "New Trade Rule Strategies," "Economy and Security," future prospects for "China," "India," and "Southeast Asia," and relations with Japan.

In this increasingly chaotic global environment, we will do our utmost to support the analysis and decision-making of business leaders, government officials, academics, and other professionals across various sectors. We sincerely ask for your continued understanding and support of the Center’s activities.
