SEECAT: Special Equipment Exhibition & Conference for Anti-Terrorism
IIST provided support for the British Embassy's booth at the Special Equipment Exhibition & Conference for Anti-Terrorism (SEECAT) held at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center in October 2013. Against the background of the conclusion in July 2013 of the UK-Japan Defense Equipment Cooperation Framework relating to the joint research, development, and production of defense equipment and related items, and also the decision to hold the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the number of companies showing expectations and interest in the Japanese market is increasing. Six of these companies exhibited in the British Embassy's booth.
The total number of visitors to the three-day SEECAT event increased by about 10% over the previous year, and the British Embassy's booth had many visitors as well, including Superintendant General Yasuhiko Nishimura of the Metropolitan Police Department. Some exhibiting companies also succeeded in discovering promising partners, such as agencies and manufacturing consignees.
Japan Drug Discovery & Development Trade Mission Seminar
IIST cooperated with the British Embassy and the British Market Council to hold "UK Oncology Trade Mission" seminars held in Tokyo on February 4 and in Osaka on February 6, 2014 during a UK life science trade mission to Japan, consisting of 14 companies providing cancer-related biomarker, drug discovery, and clinical trial services.
In these seminars, a keynote speech was given by the vice-president and senior managing director in charge of development and medical affairs at GlaxoSmithKline, a leading pharmaceutical company in the United Kingdom, after which representatives of the participating companies delivered presentations on their companies' latest technology and services.
The number of participants from Japanese companies and other organizations was 91 persons at the Tokyo seminar and 66 persons at the Osaka seminar. At one-to-one meetings held simultaneously with the seminars, a total of 55 cases of business talks took place at the two venues.
