In order to investigate needs relating to agricultural machinery for vegetables in Taiwan, the survey mission visited Dongshih Vegetable & Fruit Produce Cooperative, which is involved in the cultivation of carrots, Chinese cabbage (hakusai) and cabbage in Taiwan; the Kaohsiung District Agricultural Improvement Station of the Executive Yuan Council of Agriculture, which is engaged in breed research and extension, the development of cultivation techniques et al; and three agricultural associations in the Hengchun, Checheng, and Fangshan townships. The results of the survey indicated that a Hokkaido-made carrot harvester, which has already been introduced in Taiwan, is popular and that there is an extremely strong need for Hokkaido-made agricultural machinery, for example, to mechanize the hand-harvesting of edamame and onions.
