Overview

Since2001, with the support of the Regional Bureaus of Economy, Trade and Industry, IIST has been organizing industrial tours to various regions in Japan. The industrial tours provide opportunities to have a closer look at local economies and its society. In Tokushima Prefecture there is a high concentration of companies and research institutes, centering around universities and other higher educational organizations.A Closer exchange takes place among industry, academia, and government, which enables a number of companies in Tokushima to develop cutting-edge technologies and outstanding products. One of the participating diplomats commented: "Although we are stationed in Japan, it is rare for us to visit regions other than large cities. Industrial tours like this one are a very good opportunity to understand present conditions in the region visited and to note the possibilities of mutual cooperation in economic and industrial fields."
