Capacity Building Program for Overseas Medical Professionals (FY 2009)


Outline


IIST implemented new training and short-term training programs, inviting a total of eight medical professionals from four countries (three from Indonesia, two each from Thailand and Vietnam, and one from Malaysia). IIST also dispatched research and follow-up missions to Indonesia and Malaysia.

-Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University
-Department of Liver, Gall Bladder, and Pancreas, Cho Ray Hospital

Short-term retraining:
-Department of Circulatory Organs, Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia
-Department of Anesthesia, School of Medical Sciences, Malaysia Science University [Universiti Sains Malaysia, USM]

Dispatch
Research mission
Two persons from the Japanese Council for Medical Training of Toranomon Hospital in Tokyo were dispatched to Kota Baharu and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia from December 7 to 11, 2009. The two persons visited the School of Medical Sciences of Malaysia Science University and its attached hospital in Kota Baharu and the Faculty of Medicine of the National University of Malaysia and its attached medical center in Kuala Lumpur. They also paid a courtesy call to the Malaysian Ministry of Health in Putrajaya on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. At each of the places visited they had discussions with executives and former trainees, inspected facilities, and participated in meetings relating to trainee dispatch.

Follow-up missions
A doctor at Toranomon Hospital in Tokyo was dispatched to Malaysia from December 7 to 11, 2009, to give a lecture on circulatory organ catheter treatment at the hospital of Malaysia Science University in Kota Baharu and the medical center of the National University of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.
Also, a doctor at Toranomon Hospital was dispatched to Jakarta in Indonesia from December 14 to 18, 2009, to give a lecture on cerebrovascular treatment at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital attached to the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Indonesia and Pertamina Hospital attached to the state oil company.
