From June 15 to 17, 2009, IIST organized an industrial tour for foreign diplomats stationed in Japan to Ishikawa Prefecture and Toyama Prefecture with the aims of deepening their understanding and awareness of regional Japan through the introduction of regional economies and securing a foothold for the promotion of mutual business exchange. In both prefectures the participating diplomats paid courtesy calls to the prefectural governors and had the opportunity to hold talks with the governors and senior officials of the prefectural governments. In addition, with the cooperation and warm welcome of the two prefectural governments, the diplomats were able to have talks and discussions with representatives of regional business circles.
In the industrial visits, the participating diplomats enthusiastically inspected traditional crafts and representative companies of the two prefectures. They commented that âAlthough I have had the opportunity to see the products, I had not been able to view the manufacturing process beforeâ and âIt has been a good opportunity to learn about the development of the regional economies.â Many participants also said that they wanted to visit the region again.
The industrial tour was also reported as local news by local newspapers and television stations.
