Outline


For Japan, a country for which maintaining and developing smooth economic relations with other countries is essential, the promotion of mutual understanding with other nations is an extremely important issue. In fiscal 2009 the IIST invited opinion leaders from around the world to Japan for discussions concerning the topical theme of the environment and new energy and, by introducing Japan’s policies and the pioneering initiatives of Japanese companies in these fields, endeavored to promote their understanding of Japan and to develop economic exchange in these fields.

Overview


The opinion leaders who were invited to Japan consisted of government officials involved in the environment and new energy fields, researchers, and journalists from 11 countries. Among other things, they received a policy briefing relating to these fields and held discussions at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, visited representative Japanese companies in these fields in Tokyo and Osaka, and learned about the environmental countermeasures of local governments.
