Capacity Building Program for Overseas Medical Professionals (FY 2008)
IIST implemented new training and short-term retraining programs, inviting a total of six medical professionals from four countries (three from Thailand, two each from Indonesia and Vietnam, and one from Malaysia). IIST also dispatched research and follow-up missions to Indonesia and Vietnam.

IIST dispatched two persons from the Japanese Council for Medical Training (JCMT) of Toranomon Hospital to Hanoi in Vietnam and Jakarta in Indonesia from November 24 to December 11, 2008. In Hanoi they visited Viet Duc Hospital, which is affiliated to Hanoi Medical University. In Jakarta they visited the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Indonesia and the university-affiliated Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital and Persahabatan Hospital, as well as the National Cancer Center and the National Cardiovascular Center. During the visits, among other things, they met with senior officials and former trainees, inspected facilities, and held meetings relating to trainee dispatch.
IIST dispatched a doctor from Toranomon Hospital to Hanoi from November 24 to 30, 2008, to give a presentation and offer practical guidance at Viet Duc Hospital, which is affiliated with Hanoi Medical University.
IIST also dispatched a Toranomon Hospital doctor to Jakarta from December 6 to 11, 2008, to give presentations at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, which is affiliated to the University of Indonesiaâs Faculty of Medicine, and Pertamina Hospital, which is affiliated to the national petroleum corporation.
