Overview

In the four cities visited, the mission met with the representatives of Chinese companies and locally operated Japanese companies, and toured industrial, distribution and port facilities, in addition to pay courtesy calls to local governments. The visit gave the participants opportunities to hold discussions and examine the present state and future directions of economic exchange with northeastern and northern China.
The visitors also participated in the Tianjin Meeting organized by the Northeast Asian Economic Forum, and exchanged opinions with leading figures in the Tianjin government. They visited the Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Zone where ideas were shared with an eye toward expanding economic exchange between the Hokuriku region and the city of Tianjin.

In each of the areas visited, participants strengthened relationships that would lead to further exchange in the future by sharing ideas with locally operated Japanese companies and government figures. The tours of port facilities at Dalian, Shenyang, Tianjin, and Qingdao, were golden opportunities for the experts and other participants to view China’s dynamic efforts at increasing domestic demand. Furthermore, the discussion that took place during the courtesy call to the Dalian City government (Bureau of Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation) produced the notable result of an agreement for periodic exchange.
Local media coverage by a Chunichi Shimbun reporter, who was a participating member, and articles about the mission to China that appeared after returning to Japan were widely featured in the newspapers, which served to share the outcome of this program with the general public.
