Mission Dispatch Program: Tohoku Region Industrial Exchange Promotion Mission (Germany) (FY2007)


Outline


The purposes of this program are to introduce the investment environment of the Tohoku region and promote exchanges and cooperation with German companies, research and support institutions, and clusters in the MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems), IT, and automobile related fields and to attract German companies to Japan. Furthermore, the potential for deeper exchanges and cooperation are explored through the participation of experts.

Overview


The mission members participated in the Japan Business Forum and explained the investment environment of the Tohoku region, with experts introducing world class ideas, technology seeds and by displaying local products and brochures.
During the Forum, Professor Esashi introduced “the latest trends in research and development of microsystem integration.”

Industry-university collaborations were studied at WISTA, which is located within one of the largest science technology parks in the world; the mission also toured inside the science technology park and Bessy.

While in the science technology park, Mr. Kikuchi, who is from the Tohoku Industrial Cluster of Embedded Technology and is the COO of Tripod Works Co., Ltd., reported about “IT businesses in the Tohoku region.”

The mission toured IAV and KWD, and visited the Saxony Economic Development Corporation and exchanged opinions with their representatives.
Professor Yamamoto made a presentation about the “automobile industry in the Tohoku region” there.

Through a face-to-face interaction, a network of people in both Germany and Japan has been established, which should be maintained in the future. Additionally, participation of Japanese experts in the mission enhanced the effectiveness since the merits of the investment environment of the Tohoku region were well highlighted by them.
