Under its 32th Leadership Program held from February 21 to 25, 2005, IIST organized international symposium titled “Symposium on Promotion of Japan-China Business Interaction,” one each in Hiroshima and Takamatsu, in cooperation with the Chugoku Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Shikoku Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, respectively.

Overview


Symposium in Hiroshima (February 22)
Theme: The Strategy of Japanese Enterprises on Intellectual Property Rights in China

Many Japanese companies are entering the Chinese market and facing problems caused by the violation of intellectual property rights. At the symposium, the invitee from China, who was an expert in intellectual property laws, made a speech on the protection and use of intellectual property rights in China. In addition, a representative of a Japanese company operating in China introduced the actual damage caused by the violation of intellectual property rights in the country. Their speeches were highly appreciated by participants who were intending to enter the Chinese market, who said that the speeches were of great use for them to deepen their knowledge about intellectual property-related issues in China.

Symposium in Takamatsu (February 24)
Theme: Key to the Successful Business in China

IIST invited political and business experts from China, which had become an attractive huge market as a result of favorable economic growth, with the expectation of learning from them how local small- and medium-sized enterprises in Japan should enter the Chinese market. The invitees introduced the current Chinese economy and important points to be noted by companies intending to enter the Chinese market. At the symposium, experiences of Japanese companies operating in China were also presented. Participants highly appreciated the symposium, saying that they had received advice and lessons from both the Chinese and Japanese sides.
